Caring for Mulberry silk — a short guide

Washing

By hand at 30°C, or in a mesh bag on your machine's wool cycle. Always use a mild, pH-neutral detergent — no bleach, no enzymes. A splash of white vinegar in the final rinse preserves the sheen.

Drying

Never tumble dry. Don't wring — press in a towel. Dry flat, away from direct sunlight. UV light breaks down silk fibre faster than any wash cycle.

Ironing

At the lowest setting, on the inside, while the silk is still slightly damp. No steam directly on the fabric.

Storing

Breathable storage — a cotton pouch or the original box. Avoid plastic; silk needs to breathe. Fold along the natural seams to avoid persistent lines.

Treated this way, 22 momme silk barely loses any of its sheen or shape, even after hundreds of washes.
