22 Momme explained — why this weight and no other

If you've ever compared silks, you probably felt the difference instantly — not in colour, but in drape. That difference is called momme. It's the Japanese unit that measures how much a length of silk weighs per surface area, and it is by far the most telling indicator of quality.
Below 16 momme
Thin silk, often sheer, beautiful for scarves but too fragile for anything that touches the skin daily. Washes poorly, tears easily.
16 to 19 momme
The common weight of cheap silk pyjamas and pillowcases. Acceptable, but loses its glow and shape after a dozen washes.
22 momme — our choice
Heavy enough to fall elegantly around the body, dense enough to survive dozens of washes, yet light enough to breathe through the night. It is the weight Como ateliers choose for their signature pieces.
Above 25 momme
Stiff and heavy. Beautiful for dresses and evening wear, too thick for anything that should rest against your skin while you sleep.
Every piece in our collection — pyjama, mask, pillowcase, bonnet and scrunchie — is made of 22 momme Mulberry silk. No blended fibres, no treatments that artificially boost the sheen. Only the weight that works.
